Abstract

|
|
Thyroid cartilage fracture is a common feature of external laryngeal trauma. It is relatively rare form of trauma, but prompt recognition and treatment are required not only to preserve life in the short-term, but also to restore laryngeal
function
in
the long-term.
To reduced the fracture of thyroid cartilage, suture and wiring, miniplate and screw applications have been used, but the screws of miniplate are too large to damage the inner perichondrium. Recently, authors experienced a case of thyroid
cartilage
fracture resulting in hoarseness and mild dyspnea. This fracture is reduced by microplate and screw. Hoarseness and dyspnea subsided postoperately. (Korean J Otolaryngol 38:5, 1995)
